Ethical framework
Trust is the only currency a community project really has. This is how we earn it: honesty, respect, fairness and integrity, written down and binding on everyone.

We take a long-term view of our work. We recognise a responsibility not only to the people who build Local Solar System, our most valuable resource, but also to our partners, the communities we work in, the learners who use our platform, and the scientific community we aim to serve.
For us, it is about working steadily towards long-term goals with a down-to-earth approach, keeping things simple and daring to be different. To make sure we live up to these values, we have set out an ethical framework describing the behaviour we all follow.
Values only mean something when they are written down and followed.
Who this framework applies to
This framework applies to everyone who takes part in Local Solar System: members, Council members, stewards, staff, contractors, contributors, ambassadors and chapter volunteers. It was first adopted on 10 September 2019 and has been updated for the project’s organisation as a DAO. Changes are made under the project’s governance rules.
The policies
- Conflicts of interest: fair and honest dealings, gifts, political neutrality, harassment, and how to report misconduct.
- Protection of assets and confidential information: how we look after the project’s funds, systems, information and intellectual property.
- Sustainability: using our resources in the best possible way.
- Lead with exemplary actions: the responsibility of everyone who coordinates others.
