Most breakthroughs start as a half-formed idea said out loud to the right person. The IRN is a private room where researchers can do exactly that.
Research is hard, slow and often lonely. A question that stalls one lab for a year may be something another field solved long ago, if only the two people could meet.
What is the IRN?
The Local Solar System International Research Network (IRN) is a closed online forum where the scientific community can discuss research, hypotheses and theories with each other. Access is limited to qualified researchers. The IRN is free to use, is moderated by its own members and is paid for from the Local Solar System Treasury.
A question asked in one field can meet its answer in another.
What it is for
The IRN makes it easier to discuss research, including other people’s published work, and to spot connections between results from different groups and fields.
How it works
Members post questions and ideas in a forum organised by field. Discussions are visible to other researchers in that field, so a question in one area can meet an answer from another. When you are exploring a new hypothesis, that can save a great deal of time.
Why closed?
Conversations are an exchange between peers, with no central authority steering them. Keeping the network private means members hear from qualified colleagues and can share early ideas without publishing them. Nothing discussed on the IRN is made public unless every participant in the discussion explicitly agrees.
