Protection of assets and confidential information
A donor’s gift, a volunteer’s lesson, a hardware wallet in a drawer. Everything this project owns was entrusted to it, and we all guard it together.

Local Solar System’s assets include its treasury, its systems and accounts, its confidential information, and the copyrights and other intellectual property created for the project. Everyone taking part is responsible for protecting these assets and must report any loss or suspected misuse to the Council.

Proper use of assets
Project systems, accounts and software are used only for Local Solar System work, unless the Council authorises otherwise.
Use of funds
Everyone involved in the project, and anyone acting on its behalf, must make sure that funds are protected from misuse and are used efficiently, effectively, responsibly and prudently. Treasury funds are never mixed with anyone’s personal wallets or accounts. Payments are made only from an approved budget, under written agreements, and every outflow is published on our transparency page.
Keys and wallets
No one may ever share, copy, photograph or store online the private keys, seed phrases or passwords that control the project’s wallets. Local Solar System will never ask anyone for these, by any channel.
Intellectual property
Our content is published under open licences (CC BY-SA 4.0 for content, an open-source licence for code), so that knowledge can be freely shared. The Local Solar System name, logo and initiative marks are different: they may not be used to imply endorsement or to solicit donations. Everyone should consider the reputation of the project in their activities.
Work created by paid staff and contractors is assigned to the project under their written agreements. Volunteer contributions are licensed under the project licences, as set out in the contributor terms.
Confidential information
Anyone with access to confidential information, whether it belongs to Local Solar System or to others such as donors, partners and researchers, must protect it at all times. Unauthorised disclosure can harm the project and third parties. Confidential information includes private donation records, personal data, security details, unpublished plans and research shared in confidence.
Everyone with access to such information must act in line with their agreement with the project, applicable law and project policies.
