The most cratered surface in the solar system: a face that has barely changed for billions of years.
Callisto’s dark, ancient surface is saturated with impact craters, showing little geological activity for billions of years.
It orbits outside Jupiter’s most intense radiation belts, which is why it has been suggested as a possible future base for human exploration of the Jupiter system.
