Energy and Natural Resource Depletion

GREEN INITIATIVE

Energy and Natural

Resource Depletion

The Green Initiative deals with urgent natural resource depletion and the related energy solutions that need to be implemented.

These problems, if left unchecked, will impact our planet’s capacity to sustain life in the future. Efforts are divided into two main charitable endeavors:

NATURAL RESOURCE DEPLETION COMES HAND IN HAND WITH STOPPING HUMAN OVERPOPULATION AND RESPONSIBLE USE OF NATURAL RESOURCES. THE REASON WHY WE HAVE THE CURRENT LEVELS OF CO2 IS BECAUSE THE AMOUNT OF POPULATION IS UNPRECEDENTEDOUR PLANET DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH RESOURCES

AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE GRAPH, THE POPULATION VOLUME HAS NEVER BEEN SO HIGH AND COMES FROM AN EXPLOSIVE TREND. ALTHOUGH REPRODUCTION IS IMPORTANT, UP UNTIL WE FIND A CURE FOR AGEING, THE RATE AT WHICH WE ARE REPRODUCING WORLDWIDE IS UNNATURAL AND UNSUSTAINABLE. OUR PLANET DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THE INCREASED TREND IN POPULATION.

According to current projections, the world population will continue to grow until at least 2050, with the population reaching 9 billion in 2040 and some predictions putting the population as high as 11 billion in 2050.

ACCORDING TO DATA FROM THE U.S. CIA’S WORLD FACTBOOK, THE WORLD HUMAN POPULATION CURRENTLY INCREASES BY 145 EVERY MINUTE AND IS GROWING AT A RATE OF 1.14% OR ABOUT 75 MILLION PEOPLE PER YEAR.

Almost all growth is and will take place in less developed countries, where today’s 5.3 billion people are expected to increase to 7.8 billion in 2050. This is also happening in first world economies, such as in the United States, where population is expected to increase by 44% from 2008 to 2050. This, along with global life expectancy increases at birth, is expected to continue rising, and based on the technology supported by The Local Solar System Foundation, we could reach a level of equilibrium in 2080.

Unfortunately, governments want their population to grow. A growing population results in a growing economy. Governments see the population as a form of income, and financial indicators are even based on how much the population grew, which in turn results in more commodities being consumed. In other words, your government is interested in your reproduction at least to a certain volume, which leads to an accelerated rate of depletion of natural resources.

To put it simply, having more than one child (per individual) or two children (per couple) is irresponsible.

We live in a closed environment and have finite resources; natural resource depletion is so high that some solutions are not even enough (such as CO2 mitigation).

We are so used to seeing the growing population in all corners of our planet without even questioning what its real impact is.

In 1950, there were only 83 urban centers with populations exceeding one million. By 2007, this had risen to 468 “agglomerations.” These urban centers destroy natural ecosystems and consume resources at an unsustainable rate. If the trend continues, depletion of arable land and natural forest will be reduced to 65% in the following 10 years.

THE INCREASE WILL BE MOST DRAMATIC IN THE POOREST AND LEAST-URBANIZED CONTINENTS: ASIA AND AFRICA. PROJECTIONS INDICATE THAT THE MOST URBAN GROWTH OVER THE NEXT 25 YEARS WILL BE IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.

Knowledge is the sole and only solution. Through our social media marketing campaigns, the Local Solar System Foundation aims to bring conscience to populations in reproducing age.

AS CURRENT TRENDS ARISE IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES, MULTIPLE PARTNERS OR MARRIAGES ARE BECOMING MORE RECURRENT (SEVERAL MARRIAGES WITH DIFFERENT PARTNERS). A SELF-AWARENESS OF ONLY GIVING A SINGLE OFFSPRING PER PERSON IS CRITICAL. EACH INDIVIDUAL SHOULD RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT AND BE AWARE THAT BY HAVING MORE THAN ONE CHILD THEY ARE CREATING AN EXPONENTIAL GROWTH CURVE THAT MAY NOT MANIFEST IN THEIR LIVES BUT WILL CERTAINLY DO SO IN THE FUTURE.

Changing this paradigm is extremely challenging and must be done carefully. The human population should remain stable. Common knowledge should trump both government and family traditions that in some regions of our planet are so deeply engraved on human behavior.

This is an urgent problem and something we must critically understand and address without any taboos nor prejudices. Natural resource depletion won’t stop; we need resources to survive. We can choose to become vegan, or we may choose to reduce emitting carbon. However, we are only cutting a portion of our real footprint. The real underlying problem is us, each one of us; we breathe, eat, and produce waste, and we can’t ignore these facts.

WE MUST ACT RESPONSIBLY, AND WE MOST COLLECTIVELY UNDERSTAND THAT OUR ACTIONS HERE AND NOW HAVE A DIRECT IMPACT ON OUR PLANET’S FUTURE.

The Local Solar System Foundation needs your support to continue funding research on this subject. We want to develop and test in a real-life environment a modular turbine array to better understand the capabilities of this technology.

EXPERIMENTING AND DEVELOPING NEW TECHNOLOGIES IS EXPENSIVE, BUT OUR PLANET DESPERATELY NEEDS YOU! DONATE TO THE BLUE INITIATIVE OF THE LOCAL SOLAR SYSTEM FOUNDATION AND HELP US CHANGE THE WAY WE PRODUCE ENERGY.

EFFICIENT WIND GENERATION

TECHNOLOGIES WITH A LOWER FOOTPRINT

WINDS ARE CAUSED BY ROTATION OF THE EARTH AND THE HEATING OF THE ATMOSPHERE BY THE SUN AS WELL AS EARTH’S SURFACE IRREGULARITIES. WE CAN HARNESS WIND ENERGY AND USE IT TO GENERATE POWER AS LONG AS THE SUN SHINES AND THE WIND BLOWS.

It should be clear by now that the future is solar and Eolic (wind) energy. However, these technologies need improvement both in efficiency and from a waste management perspective.

THE WIND IS FREE; IT IS READY AND WAITING AND IS AN UN-DEPLETABLE SOURCE OF ENERGY. THE EXPENSE OF DELIVERING WIND ENERGY HAS DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY. WIND FARMS OR INDIVIDUAL TURBINES HAVE A HIGH UPFRONT COST. THOUGH, ONCE INSTALLED, OPERATING COSTS ARE RELATIVELY LOW, AS TURBINES DON’T REQUIRE MUCH MAINTENANCE OVER THE COURSE OF THEIR LIFE.

Wind energy has seen enormous growth in the last decade. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, cumulative wind power capacity increased by an average of 30% per year. Yet, global production is still limited; wind energy only accounts for about 3% of the total worldwide electricity production.

The turbines can be installed on existing farms or agricultural land in rural areas. They mix air from the higher layer into the lower level, producing an increase of temperature (without impacting global temperature) that protects crops on cold nights. This can also be an alternative source of earning for farmers, as wind plant owners make payments to farmers for the use of their land for electricity generation. It doesn’t occupy much space, and farmers can continue to work on the land.

Wind technology development is limited due to multiple factors. Current supply chains are very well established and inflexible. Other than minor upgrades, the technology has not received significant updates since its current form was introduced to the market. Current designs are inefficient at capturing power from air as its proven by the noise contamination they produce. The use of skinny blades are the result of these limitations, and leading edges are generally prone to fail over time, especially during hail storms due to the high speed at which the blades are turning; this lowers the overall life of each blade and the associated environmental cost of decommission.

Our research shows that the use of more modular components in an array of multiple wind turbines or modular turbine arrays is much more efficient that the larger, single turbine solution currently on the market. Just as solar panels, wind turbines in such modular arrays may be mounted behind each other in a venturi structure, increasing their overall output for that same footprint. Mounting different layers of small turbines in a single array is much more efficient. The use of air compression within the venturi could also theoretically increase the efficiency of each subsequent layer, just like plane turbine stages by extracting every bit of energy available on any given wind mass.

The use of our proposed energy may lower the cost significantly. The Local Solar System Foundation has designed preliminary wind turbine models that, based on our research, are extremely efficient energy harvesters. Turbines using this technology could be made available in a wide range of sizes not only for farms but also factories, large private residences, and even offshore structures, providing the market with more ad hoc solutions specific to their industry and mission for use at home or on commercial land.
