Light Initiative
For most of our planet’s history, our spectacular observable universe, composed of countless stars and galaxies, has been visible in the darkness of our night sky, every single night … until recently.
In a sense, light is one of the most important technologies developed by the human race. Light makes our technological world spin. Everything is dependent on light, including the device you are using to read this website.
But all great technology comes at a great cost. In some cases, this cost seems negligible at first … until, of course, it’s too late.
Light pollution affects you and everyone around you. It affects sleep and circadian patterns. It’s uncomfortable and damaging. We don’t consciously feel it, but it greatly affects humans and other mammals.
Light is one of the three pollution pillars that the Light Foundation works to eliminate. Pollution, in all its varieties, is damaging to the planet and to ourselves and is the result of our activities here on earth. Knowledge is the only tool we can use to fight it.
Pollution, in all its forms, is a direct result of human curiosity. As we age and become more diligent as a race, we realize the complex implications of our previously imprudent implementations within our complex enterprises.
The Light Initiative is a nonprofit component of the Local Solar System Foundation. It is a segregated financial initiative dedicated to raising awareness among the international industrial community and its final consumers in regards to light, water and plastic pollution as a result of day-to-day activities on our planet. The initiative contemplates the Financial Sector as a key component for implementation of mitigation efforts, by working jointly with Banks and Financial Institutions to build sustainable solutions that are both congruent and financially compatible with current industrial practices, thereby introducing healthy changes into the whole supply chain.
